NBA Twitter | Stuzo InsightsToday some of the most popular shows on television center on celebrities and athletes living their everyday lives. At the same time so much of our time is spent within social media platforms sharing our thoughts and feelings or following those same celebrities. When looking at these two developments it would make sense to find a way to marry the two, which is exactly what the NBA has done for its fans.

Using its Twitter handle the NBA engages its fans everyday by providing useful content about recent news, scores and other league developments. These posts are great to keep the casual fan up to date with current events around the league, but instead of stopping there, as most leagues do, the NBA goes a step further by pulling fans in and asking their opinion on hot topics around the league. To most people this would be enough to show that the league is concerned with getting their message out and polling some fan opinions, however the NBA truly does cater to the current fans desires by showing them behind the scenes footage of what it is like to be up close and personal in the NBA.

Evidence of the common fan being shown what lies behind the curtain are all over the current NBA playoffs where we can see what it is like for an all-star to warm up in an almost empty area or what it is like to be at half court before tip-off. Before social media it would be almost impossible for any fan to experience these types of sights without having courtside seats or the right connections.

Even for the casual fan who may watch a game a week, the steps that the NBA is taking with their Twitter account shows a deep appreciation that most leagues and franchises do not, especially with some of the labor struggles that we read about everyday. If nothing else, this is reflected by the 2.5 million followers that the NBA has on Twitter.
