Challenge

American Express teamed up with Facebook to give five small businesses a social make-over and $20,000 to grow their business. The challenge was in absorbing all of the nominations that American Express would receive, making the businesses' stories available to the Facebook community to absorb and vote on, and to ultimately decide the fate of five lucky (and deserving) small businesses who would be infused with social know-how and extra cashflow.

Solution

This experience was launched across all three major AMEX brand Facebook Pages, which make up nearly 4 million Facebook users: American Express OPEN, American Express Small Business Saturday, and American Express. The solution was a robust voting experience that allowed users to engage with their AMEX brand of choice - be it AMEX, OPEN, or SBS - learn about some amazing small businesses and vote on their favorite nominees for the ultimate Big Break.

Results

In the end, nearly 50,000 votes were cast, resulting in five winners - Fat Brain Toys, HOPELights, Big Daddy's Bar-B-Que, Distinctive Gardens, and Spoonflower - being selected out of the massive applicant pool, their stories on display, their bank accounts infused, and their businesses ready to connect with you!
