According to AllFacebook.com, nine of the ten most Liked people on Facebook are top recording artists. Clearly, major labels are embracing the site as an integral part of their artists’ social marketing strategies. With access to 600 million users, Facebook has become the main social hub for today’s top artists to market and promote their music. Like other global brands, these artists use Facebook Pages to engage with their international fan bases through a multitude of apps, sharing features, and custom social experiences.

In December 2010, Billboard launched its Social 50 Chart ranking artists by their social networking activity. The top three are currently Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, and Rihanna. Coincidentally, these artists also happen to be three of the ten most Liked people. How do they do it? Of course most of their Likes are based on their already established fame, but they do not solely rely on this. They also utilize Facebook’s social tools to give fans the content and connection they crave. While there are similarities between the three Pages, each has a unique component that reflects each artist’s image. By examining how the top three do it, brand and community managers can build and maintain an artist Page that will continue to attract fans.

Robin Hood is largest poverty-fighting organization helping New York City. Monsters are asked to vote on their favorite organization to decide which will receive $1 million donation. Fans can also enter to win free tickets to a private show benefiting Robin Hood.

Rihanna shows love to her Navy with a Fan Gallery application that allows fans to submit their own photos and vote on others for a weekly winner. She also frequently calls out to the Rihanna Navy on her Wall.

With nine applications, Justin Bieber leads the pack providing Beliebers with everything they could ever want. The Connect with JB application gives fans access to an enormous amount of Bieberified goodies including Facebook banners, twibbons, AIM icons, posters, and wallpapers. The application also lists all of his social channels, so fans can connect with him on all levels.
